i agree with with elmstone,i am an ex merchant seaman i would say this song was written with merchant seaman in mind.THE VOLUME OF PORTS MENTIONED IN THE SONG COULD ONLY BE VISITED BY MERCHANT SHIPS ON A REGULAR BASIS ,AMSTERDAM FOR EXAMPLE A VERY BUSY MERCHANT SHIP PORT,ALSO SIAM(BANKOK) ANOTHER

Beautiful song sung by a beautiful woman. As a young U.S. sailor in the early to mid 60s, it takes me back to partying in the enlisted mans club at the naval base in Subic Bay Phillappines with mates from the Aussie Navy. Still have the uniform hat I swapped with a mate from H.M.A.S. Vampire. That was in July 1964. Seems like just the other day. That's what that song does for me. R.I.P. Pet
